The Loft, plus Chimney Braces Installed
A while back, I scored a bunch of "scab" insulation for free. Partial bags, loose bats, etc. A BUNCH of it. So much, that I filled my 6x12 cargo trailer to the brim.
I have kept it in the trailer to keep it out of the weather. But lately I have needed the trailer for a few things..... so I felt the need to find the insulation a new home.
I built this loft as a temporary place to store it, with the intentions of using the overhead space for storage later anyhow.
2x2 blocking was installed on top of the bottom cord of the trusses to increase the available space to insulate to 6". Then OSB sheeting was installed, and plastic was installed to seal the insulation in. Without the plastic, the insulation dust would be stirred up constantly. This seems to work well.
I also got the chance to install a couple of braces on the chimney. I used stainless hose clamps, and Simpson ties (30" Tension Braces). The hose clamps clamp the ties to the chimney. The other end is nailed to the facia.
