Building the Stairwell Part 3
And Blocking for the Overhead Door
I finally got around to finishing up the stairwell. And I am very pleased with the results. Very stable, and looks good. I decided to install a handrail on the wall side as well. Pickets are 2x2s, posts are pressure treated 4x4s. All have 45 degree cuts to spice things up, as well as shed water off the tops. The bottom post was set in concrete, with the bottom portion being coated in roofing tar. After a little bit of sanding and filler, the entire thing will be primed and painted. 1/2 inch lag bolts will also be installed to tie the posts to the stringers better. The stair treads will also get a texture treatment.
With the large overhead door on order, I needed to do a little more prep. I finally got a spec sheet for it, and since I am going with a high-lift, and jackshaft opener, I needed a bit more blocking over the garage door header. On both sides of the opening, and dead center. These will be the mounting points for the jackshaft, and side mount motor.
