Laying the block foundation

Day 1!

Once we stripped the forms, we started laying the first few blocks.  We are using 8x8x16 standard hollow medium weight (CPM) blocks, with a bond beam every 24 inches.

Using block, and installing block is one of very few things neither my father nor I have ever done.  So this was a learn as you go job, all seemed to go well though.  Once we had the corners built up a bit, we strung line between hem, and installed our first few courses of block.

Definitely a learning process! 

I now have a new outlook on masons and their projects. 

How they build entire structures out of brick and stone I dont know.... such a project!
